What story might be carried on the north wind, or speak from a winter fire? How might collaboration with the natural elements inspire, root, and guide your creative practice? This workshop series aims to foster greater intimacy with the living world, and explore creating words and images from a place of heartfelt kinship with the land. The focus is on self-expression from that connection and your own inner responses. In a culture so divisive and head-centric, working—and living—this way is a path and a practice.

Each workshop will alternate written creative exercises and conversation indoors, with time spent individually outdoors on the land. The goal is to deepen our relationship with the terrains that support us, to tune into ancestral time, to attend to seasons, elements, other-than-human kin, and ourselves. This large property on the Shubenacadie River offers acres of pastures and woods, a creek, waterfall, and riverfront to explore. It’s quiet. You can even get a bit lost, if you like.

Over the course of the workshops, you’ll create one or two pieces of writing, art, or something else that emerges from your experiences. These pieces are expected to still be in rough form, and will be shared with the group.
